Vans history
The Vans shoes footwear company came from a simplistic idea where Paul Van Doren along with his partners Jim Van Doren, Gordy Lee and Serge D'Elia believed in making well designed footwear and selling them in their own store without having to use any other form of middle man. This is where it all started in 1966 in
Anaheim, California and became what we know today as one the most well known skate and lifestyle shoe companies to date.
For the skater too be at one with the board the style of using the unique waffle sole made this possible and a greater move to better levels of riding adding more safety and comfort to rider’s shoes.
This year Vans feel that they ‘are a little closer to skateboarding shoes perfection’ (Vans off the Wall 2007) by using advanced construction to the way that they have redesigned the sole, keeping the principle of the waffle design but making it thinner and with more cushioning materials sporting a padded collar,
Skateboarders soon began wearing Vans shoes in 1976. March 1976 Vans then came out with the first Vans Era in red/blue, designed by pro skaters Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta.
The next few years after this many different colour combinations were introduced into the Vans line. The Slip-on was added in 1979 in an array of colour combinations, and it quickly became the new craze of
Southern California .
The culture and style of the vans shoe does not date as time go on it improves meeting the needs of an ever growing market. While vans are still trying to advance on near perfection they do this by listening and trusting the people who they are building the shoes for, the ones who Vans culture define, the people who live for experience and satisfaction …….
The Vans footwear collection now has over 60 styles ranging from the classic deck shoes and slip-ons to high performance skateboard shoes, snowboard boots, sandals and ballet style shoes.

The first Vans old skool shoes first were designed with a diamond pattern in the sole across the entire bottom of the shoe. Vertical lines were then later added to make it stronger shoe, a design which is now vans proprietary waffle sole system
The new Vans craze spread across the California and the rest of the United states of America when Jeff Spicoli, who played the roll of a
California surfer in the hit movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", and had worn a pair of Vans checkerboard slip-ons.
